Join with thousands in the battle against Climate Change, Mass action to shut down Kingsnorth coal fired power station - Saturday, 9th August, 2008.
This summer, the Camp for Climate Action will be located near Kingsnorth, a coal-fired power station that pumps 10 million tonnes of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere every year. We chose Kingsnorth, because while the current power station is scheduled to be knocked down, owners E.ON plan to build a brand new coal-fired plant in same place! Could there be a clearer case of business-as-usual, despite all the talk of climate change being the most important threat facing humanity?
On Saturday August 9th, the climate camp will go beyond talk and culminate in a spectacular mass action to shut down Kingsnorth. Permanently!
Last years Heathrow climate camp ended with over 2,000 people converging on the headquarters of airport owners BAA, shutting it for 24 hours. The tide against the third runway has been rising ever since. This year we hope to kick-start a sustained movement against the loony idea that the UK should build a new generation of up to eight coal-fired power stations in the middle of a climate crisis. Shutting down the power station promises
to be a defining moment in the battle against climate change!
If you can't make the camp and can only make it for the day, not to worry
- trains run from central London to Kingsnorth, every few minutes and take less than an hour. If you have more time, come to the camp for a few days or even for the week (4-10th August), like over 1,500 people did last year.
Times, transportation information, and more details about the mass action are available at http://www.climatecamp.org.uk/massaction

Now is the time to act - this coal plant must not and will not be built
