Climate Camp 2008

Eleven months of every year go by without a place for people to gather on mass to work out how we are going to respond to the climate crisis we all face. No place where share holders and stock markets are off the agenda, and where we can find solutions that put the needs of people and the environment before profit. No place where people with all sorts of experiences, skills and knowledge can put their heads together, to make decisions and do what is necessary to stand up to the climate criminals of the fossil fuel industry.

But for 10 days in August in a field in Kent that place will be created. With windmills to power computer suites and solar panels to heat our showers we will show that solutions do work. From expert speakers, to open debates, to practical skill shares there will be something for everyone.

“If I have any regrets it’s that I couldn’t spend longer just walking around and marvelling at how people could live so well in what had been an expanse of rough grass. I wish I could have attended more workshops or maybe just relaxed…it was a week of amazing memorable moments…you really had to have been there. ” Christine Taylor, Heathrow local resident and chair of NOTRAG

“2007 was my first climate camp. I had changed my light bulb and signed petitions and it just did not seem enough. At the camp I met loads of people, and felt I had the support, the training, and the legal advice I needed to make my decision to take the next step. In the end we got to BAA headquarters and blockaded it together, all day and all night, just like we said we would. If BAA try to build their new runway they know that we will be back.” Natalie, 21, Student-midwife, Surrey
